Lekki Local Council Development Area (LCDA) has joined the campaign to raise awareness and strengthen the fight against domestic and sexual violence as part of activities marking Domestic and Sexual Violence Awareness Month.
Epe Insights reports that the council has demonstrated its support for the advocacy by adorning its premises in purple, a symbolic gesture aimed at drawing attention to the need for stronger action against domestic and sexual violence in communities.
The initiative is being observed under the theme, “Sexual and Gender-Based Violence: It Ends With Us,” which calls for collective responsibility in preventing abuse and creating safer environments for everyone.
The campaign seeks to promote greater public awareness about domestic and sexual violence while encouraging victims and survivors to speak up and seek appropriate support.
It also highlights the importance of communities, families, institutions and government agencies working together to address the factors that allow violence and abuse to persist.
For Lekki LCDA, the awareness campaign provides an opportunity to reinforce its commitment to the safety, dignity and wellbeing of residents, particularly women, children and other vulnerable members of the community.
Under the leadership of the Executive Chairman of Lekki LCDA, Engr. Rasaki Bamidele Kasali, MNSE, MNATE, the council said it would continue to support initiatives that promote the protection and wellbeing of vulnerable members of society.
The purple-themed display across the council premises also serves as a public reminder that preventing domestic and sexual violence requires sustained awareness and collective action beyond a single awareness month.
