In a renewed effort to safeguard maternal and child health, the Lagos State Government has distributed food palliatives to pregnant women in Ibeju-Lekki Local Government Area, as part of its commitment to reducing malnutrition and promoting safe, healthy pregnancies across the state.
EpeInsights reports that the initiative, spearheaded by the Office of Civic Engagement, was officially flagged off at the Primary Health Care Centre, Ibeju, and is part of the State’s broader maternal welfare intervention programme.
Speaking at the event, the Executive Chairman of Ibeju-Lekki Local Government, Hon. Abdullahi Sesan Olowa, represented by his Chief of Staff, Mr. Maruf Issa Olayinka, commended the Lagos State Government for its proactive approach to community welfare.
“Under the visionary leadership of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, we are bridging the gap between policy and people. These palliatives are not just food items; they are lifelines for our pregnant mothers, ensuring they and their unborn children thrive,” Olowa said.
The distributed food packages included bags of rice, beans, eggs, and other nutritional supplements, carefully selected to meet the dietary needs of expectant mothers and prevent malnutrition during pregnancy.
According to officials, beneficiaries were identified through community health centres and local civic networks to ensure transparency and equitable distribution.
The intervention forms part of Lagos State’s inclusive welfare and health strategy, designed to strengthen family health, enhance food security, and support vulnerable groups across all local government areas.
The programme also aligns with Governor Sanwo-Olu’s THEMES Plus Agenda, which places emphasis on maternal care, social inclusion, and the protection of women and children at the grassroots.
Beneficiaries expressed appreciation to the State Government for the gesture, describing it as timely and impactful given the current economic realities.
