The Lagos State Government, through the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education and the Office of Education Quality Assurance (OEQA), has officially unveiled the approved 2025/2026 Harmonised Academic Calendar for all public and private schools below the tertiary level within the state.

EpeInsights learnt that this new academic calendar is the result of a thorough, inclusive process involving stakeholders from both the public and private education sectors, school associations, proprietors, principals, education experts and regulatory agencies all had a seat at the table.

After being ratified during a stakeholder meeting, the calendar received formal approval from the Honourable Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Mr. Jamiu Tolani Alli-Balogun.

The Key Dates in the 2025/2026 Academic Year are as follow; First Term: Monday, 15th September 2025 – Friday, 19th December 2025; Second Term: Monday, 12th January 2026 – Friday, 17th April 2026 and Third Term: Monday, 4th May 2026 – Friday, 24th July 2026

According to the Coordinating Director of OEQA, Mr. Remi Abdul, the harmonised calendar is designed to align with national education policies, official public holidays, and the schedules for external examinations.

Abdul emphasized the importance of strict adherence to the approved calendar by all schools. He noted that OEQA will conduct regular monitoring and compliance checks to ensure smooth, consistent implementation across the state.

“This calendar promotes uniformity, equity, and predictability in our academic system,” he said.

“We remain committed to fostering academic excellence and providing learners with a stable, learner-focused environment.”
