The Lagos State Government has ramped up efforts to ensure public safety with the introduction of additional patrol teams by the Rapid Response Squad (RRS).

EpeInsights gathered that this move comes as part of a broader strategy to enhance security across the state, following the recent addition of more patrol vehicles to the RRS fleet.

Under the leadership of CSP Shola Jejeloye, the newly created teams include specialized units for highway security, urban patrols, and rapid-response emergencies.

The Highway Patrol Teams will secure Lagos’ major entry and exit points, while Metro Patrol Teams will focus on strengthening surveillance within the inner city. In a significant move to boost emergency responsiveness, the Alpha Squad will be deployed to quickly address urgent security concerns.

In addition to these patrol teams, the deployment of power bikes is set to improve mobility and expedite response times, as directed by the Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh. These bikes will provide a faster, more agile approach to patrolling the bustling city streets.

The recent fleet expansion also includes Toyota Hilux pick-up trucks, which were added to the RRS fleet two weeks ago, enhancing the squad’s ability to respond to incidents across Lagos. This comes on the heels of a larger security enhancement initiative led by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who in December 2024, handed over 250 new patrol vehicles, along with vital communication equipment and protective gear, to various security agencies in the state.

With these moves, the Lagos RRS is reinforcing its commitment to providing a safer environment, ensuring quick response times, and maintaining a robust presence across the state’s diverse neighborhoods.
