The Lagos State Government has announced the commencement of an extensive eight-month road rehabilitation project along the Lekki–Ajah corridor, aimed at improving traffic flow and road safety on one of the State’s busiest routes.

EpeInsights reports that the Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, in a statement noted that the project will officially begin on November 15, 2025, and is expected to be completed by July 15, 2026. Preliminary works, he noted, are already underway.

Osiyemi explained that the project will be executed in two phases to minimize disruptions and maintain movement along the corridor throughout the construction period.

“The rehabilitation will be done strategically to ensure that traffic continues to move while we deliver durable infrastructure that will serve residents and businesses in the Lekki–Ajah axis,” the Commissioner said.

Under Phase One, work will cover the stretch between the Lekki First Toll Gate and the Second Toll Gate.

Construction will take place in seven sections, with only one lane closed at a time to allow motorists use of the other lane. Once each section is completed, work will shift to the remaining side.

Phase Two will span the Lekki Second Toll Gate to the Ajah Underbridge, divided into four sections. During this stage, motorists traveling from Ajah to Lekki will be diverted to one lane while rehabilitation continues on the other.

The Commissioner appealed for patience and understanding from road users, assuring them that the temporary inconveniences would lead to long-term improvements in road quality and driving experience.

“We urge motorists to cooperate with traffic officers and adhere to directional signs during the construction period. The short-term pain will translate into lasting benefits for all commuters,” Osiyemi stated.

He emphasized that the project aligns with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s broader commitment to enhancing infrastructure, reducing travel time, and strengthening traffic management across Lagos State.

The rehabilitation of the Lekki–Ajah corridor is expected to significantly improve connectivity within the rapidly expanding Lekki-Epe axis, reduce vehicle wear and tear, and boost economic productivity by ensuring smoother logistics and commuter movement.
