The Ibeju-Lekki Local Government Area has reaffirmed its commitment to inclusive and transparent governance through a well-attended stakeholders’ meeting held to deliberate on the proposed 2026 fiscal budget.
EpeInsights reports that the meeting, which took place at the ultra-modern Council Secretariat in Igando-Oloja, brought together over 200 participants, including traditional rulers, community leaders, youth and women representatives, market associations and civil society organisations.
Speaking at the event, the Executive Chairman of Ibeju-Lekki Local Government, Hon. (Engr.) Abdullahi Sesan Olowa, said the meeting was part of his administration’s efforts to ensure that the 2026 budget reflects the true aspirations and priorities of the people.
“Our budget is not just a financial document; it is a covenant with our people,” Olowa said. “By inviting your contributions today, we are guaranteeing that every allocation in the 2026 budget speaks to the real needs of our communities.”
He explained that the budget process aligns with the council’s S.H.I.E.E.L.D Agenda, which focuses on Sustainability, Health, Infrastructure, Education, Empowerment and Leadership Development.
During the interactive session, stakeholders raised issues such as the need for improved road infrastructure to support the area’s fast-growing economy, better healthcare facilities, youth empowerment initiatives and environmental management to curb flooding.
Other community requests included the rehabilitation of rural roads, construction of classroom blocks, provision of boreholes, and the strengthening of primary healthcare centres.
Responding to the inputs, Hon. Olowa assured that all genuine concerns would be duly considered and captured in the final 2026 budget.
“Ibeju-Lekki is rising, and your voices are the fuel for our ascent,” he said.
“Together, we will deliver a 2026 budget that not only meets today’s challenges but lays a strong foundation for tomorrow’s prosperity.”
Traditional rulers and community leaders present at the meeting commended the Chairman’s participatory approach to governance and the visible progress recorded in infrastructure, education, and environmental initiatives.
The Onibeju of Ibeju-Lekki, Oba Rafiu Olusegun Salami, praised Olowa for “leading with purpose, transparency, and a people-centered mindset,” describing the forum as a hallmark of responsive leadership.
Among dignitaries in attendance were the Vice Chairman, Hon. Isiaka Yusuf Olatunji; Leader of the Legislative Council, Hon. Mojeed Oluwafemi Olayinka; Chief of Staff, Mr. Issa Maruf Olayinka; Council Manager, Mr. Abiodun Oladipupo Otinwa; and Head of Department, Mrs. Senami Avoseh.
The session concluded on a hopeful note, with participants expressing optimism that the 2026 budget will consolidate the gains achieved under Olowa’s administration and further drive socio-economic transformation across Ibeju-Lekki.
