The Federal Government is set to commence the construction of a 2 x 7.5 MVA injection substation and a 50-kilometre 33kV dedicated transmission line in Ibeju-Lekki.
EpeInsights reports that this is a major step toward addressing the persistent power challenges facing coastal communities in Ibeju-Lekki.
This was revealed during a meeting held earlier today at the Ibeju-Lekki Local Government Secretariat between officials of the Federal Ministry of Power, Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC), and the project contractor.
The team was received by the Executive Chairman of Ibeju-Lekki Local Government, Hon. (Mayor) Abdullahi Sesan Olowa.
The local government, under the leadership of Mayor Olowa, has already donated a parcel of land at Eleko Junction to facilitate the construction of the substation.
The Chairman also pledged full support to ensure the successful execution of the power project, which is expected to significantly improve electricity supply in the area.
“This project is a major milestone for our coastal communities, and we are committed to supporting its delivery in every way possible,” Mayor Olowa said.
According to the Chief Press Secretary to the Executive Chairman, Akadiri Ayorinde, the substation project has been captured in the 2025 Appropriation Bill and the Ministry is currently working to secure funding for the multi-billion naira infrastructure.
The Council also plans to convene a stakeholders’ meeting in the coming weeks to engage the community and provide further updates on the project.
Residents of Ibeju-Lekki have long endured unreliable power supply, and the commencement of this project is seen as a significant move toward ending years of energy deprivation in the fast-developing corridor.
