COWLSO Inspects Special Education Units

The Committee of Wives of Lagos State Officials (COWLSO) School Committee has conducted an inspection of Inclusive Education Units in Educational District III to improve learning conditions for pupils with special needs.

Epe Insights reports that the inspection, held on April 8, 2026, was led by Mrs. Kasali Ramat, wife of the Executive Chairman of Lekki LCDA, alongside Princess Ayeola Karamot, a member of the committee.

The visit marked the committee’s second round of assessment aimed at evaluating facilities and identifying gaps in inclusive education across selected schools.

During the exercise, the team assessed infrastructure, learning materials, and classroom environments to better understand the challenges faced by pupils and teachers.

They also engaged directly with educators and students to gain insight into the daily realities of teaching and learning within the inclusive units.

The interaction provided first-hand information on the support required to enhance the quality of education for children with special needs.

Schools visited during the inspection included RCM Primary School in Okunraye, located in Lekki LCDA.

The committee also visited Ibeju High School in Ibeju Agbe, within Ibeju-Lekki Local Government Area.

Addo Primary School in Langbasa, under Eti-Osa East Local Council Development Area, was also part of the inspection tour.

At each location, the committee carefully reviewed the condition of classrooms, availability of assistive tools, and accessibility of facilities.

Members noted that while efforts have been made to support inclusive education, more investment is needed to meet required standards.

They emphasized the importance of creating a conducive learning environment that caters to the unique needs of every child.

The committee reiterated its commitment to advocating for improved infrastructure and resources in inclusive education units across the district.

As part of ongoing efforts, plans have been approved for the renovation and full furnishing of the inspected schools.

This development received backing from the First Lady of Lagos State, Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, who endorsed the initiative.

The planned upgrade will include the provision of desks, chairs, and modern assistive learning tools to support effective teaching.

Specialized educational equipment will also be installed to address the specific needs of pupils in the inclusive units.
