The Executive Chairman of Eredo Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Hon. Monsuru Akinloye, has announced the launch of the 2025 Chairman’s Cup, a grassroots football tournament designed to strengthen community unity and nurture young talents across the council area.
EpeInsights reports that this year’s edition of the competition is themed “Uniting Hearts, Inspiring Dreams, Building Champions Through Football”, reflecting its focus on teamwork, youth empowerment and local pride.
The annual sporting event, now a major highlight in Eredo’s community calendar, will feature football teams drawn from different wards competing for the coveted title.
It is expected to attract local clubs, schools, and hundreds of football enthusiasts.
Speaking at the announcement, Hon. Akinloye emphasized that the Chairman’s Cup goes beyond recreation — it is a deliberate initiative to engage young people constructively and promote peace through sports.
“Football remains one of the strongest tools for peace and social development. Through this tournament, we’re not only encouraging healthy competition but also discovering and empowering future stars who can represent Eredo, Lagos, and even Nigeria,” he said.
He added that sports play a vital role in shaping disciplined and focused young people, keeping them away from social vices while opening up opportunities for growth and self-discovery.
“Our goal is to build a generation of disciplined, talented, and goal-driven youths. The Chairman’s Cup serves as a platform to achieve that,” Akinloye stated.
Residents of Eredo have been encouraged to turn out in large numbers to cheer for their teams and celebrate the unifying power of football.
