The Lagos State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has expelled several members for openly aligning with the African Democratic Congress (ADC), in what party leaders describe as a decisive move to uphold discipline and internal cohesion ahead of the upcoming party congresses.

EpeInsights reports that the development follows a stakeholders’ meeting convened by the PDP Elders Caucus and local government party chairmen to review resolutions from the recent National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held in Abuja.

Speaking after the meeting, Segun Edwards, a local government chairman and spokesperson for the PDP Elders Caucus in Lagos, confirmed that the expelled members had declared their support for the ADC while still retaining formal ties with the PDP.

“The party has no room for divided loyalty,” Edwards stated.

“Those who have openly pitched their tents with another party cannot remain within our fold.”

According to party sources, the meeting was marked by strong condemnation of the defectors’ actions, which were seen as a breach of party ethics and a betrayal of collective political goals.

A motion was moved for the expulsion of the affected individuals, which received unanimous approval from the stakeholders present.

The PDP leadership in Lagos has also directed all local government chairmen to commence immediate preparations for the forthcoming party congresses.

These internal elections spanning from local wards to the national convention are scheduled to take place between September and November 2025.

Party elders expressed confidence that the upcoming congresses will provide an opportunity to reposition the PDP in Lagos State, strengthen its grassroots structures, and reassert its political relevance ahead of future elections.

This development is the latest in a series of internal reforms aimed at reinforcing party discipline and loyalty amid an evolving political landscape in the state.
