Chairman of the Lagos State House Committee on Physical Planning and Urban Development, Hon. Ogunkelu Sylvester, has convened a high-level strategic meeting with key urban development stakeholders in Lagos on July 9, 2025.
EpeInsights reports that Hon. Ogunkelu, the lawmaker representing Epe Constituency II, brought together leaders from relevant government agencies to align efforts and chart a coordinated path toward smart urban growth across the state.
Present at the meeting were the Special Adviser on Urban Development, the Chairman of the Lagos State Urban Renewal Agency (LASURA), as well as senior directors from related departments.
The gathering emphasized a collaborative approach to improving infrastructure, planning processes, and regulatory frameworks.
The dialogue focused on strengthening inter-agency coordination and leveraging innovation to address the challenges of urban expansion in one of Africa’s most dynamic cities.
Hon. Ogunkelu underscored the importance of forward-thinking policies that anticipate the future needs of Lagos’ rapidly growing population.
He stressed that urban development strategies must align with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s T.H.E.M.E.S agenda, an acronym encapsulating key priorities: Traffic management and transportation, Health and environment, Education and technology, Making Lagos a 21st-century economy, Entertainment and tourism as well as Security and governance.
Speaking during the session, Hon. Ogunkelu stated that the committee is committed to ensuring that every urban planning initiative is inclusive, resilient, and aligned with the governor’s vision for a Greater Lagos.
He described the meeting as more than just a policy review but a necessary call to action for all stakeholders involved in shaping the city’s future.
“This engagement is not just a meeting; it’s a shared responsibility. As lawmakers and urban planners, our collaboration is critical to delivering lasting, transformative development that benefits every resident of Lagos State,” he said.
The meeting concluded with a renewed commitment from all participants to support legislation, urban renewal projects and infrastructural upgrades that reflect best practices and serve both current and future generations of Lagosians.
