In response to the recent wave of torrential rainfall that has triggered flooding across parts of Ibeju-Lekki Local Government, the local administration has assured residents that swift and strategic action is underway to address the situation.

EpeInsights reports that several communities including Baba Adisa, Aiyeteju, Kaiyetoro, Araromi, Orimedu, and Onosa have reportedly been affected by rising floodwaters following persistent rainfall over the past few days.

The Executive Chairman of Ibeju-Lekki, Hon. Abdullahi Sesan Olowa, has since directed the Chief Technical Adviser on Environment to carry out an on-the-ground assessment.

According to a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the Chairman, Akadiri Ayorinde, a comprehensive environmental and flooding impact report has now been submitted to the council leader.

In a decisive move, Hon. Olowa is set to constitute a broad-based team of experts this week to review the findings and recommend short-, medium-, and long-term solutions to tackle the flooding.

“The government’s approach will be strategic and holistic,” the statement read.

“It is aimed at addressing the root causes of flooding while deploying sustainable solutions to mitigate future occurrences.”

While long-term interventions are being considered in collaboration with the Lagos State Government, the Council Boss has appealed for calm and cooperation from residents during this period.

“Mayor Olowa is pleading for your understanding during this time, with the assurance that a comprehensive plan incorporating both local and state-level support will soon be implemented,” the statement concluded.

Residents are encouraged to report flood-prone areas and stay informed as the council rolls out its flood mitigation strategy.Aftermath of Torrential Rainfall: Ibeju-Lekki Council Moves to Tackle Flooding in Affected Communities
