Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu received President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, following the President’s return to Nigeria from a working vacation in Europe.
Epe Insights reports that Tinubu arrived at the Presidential Wing of the airport on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, after concluding his stay in London and Paris, France. Sanwo-Olu and other dignitaries were at the airport to receive him.
Tinubu had departed Nigeria on August 30 for the working vacation, spending about a week in London before proceeding to Paris.
The Presidency confirmed that the President departed Paris for Nigeria on Tuesday and chose Lagos as his first destination after the European trip.
Sanwo-Olu shared details of the reception in a message, saying it was a pleasure to welcome the President back to Lagos.
The governor described Tinubu’s return as a welcome development after his working vacation abroad.
The President’s return marked the end of an extended period outside the country during which he maintained official engagements.
While in Paris, Tinubu held engagements that included a private dinner with French President Emmanuel Macron and meetings with business leaders, according to the Presidency.
The Presidency also said Tinubu continued to direct the affairs of the country during his time abroad.
His return to Lagos comes ahead of activities marking Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary.
The Presidency said the President is expected to attend the premiere of a movie honouring the late Chief Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola at the Wole Soyinka National Theatre, Iganmu, on October 1.
The choice of Lagos as Tinubu’s first destination was also linked by the Presidency to plans to honour the memory of the late MKO Abiola.
The President is further expected to hold strategic meetings with political leaders and associates while in Lagos, according to the Presidency.
Sanwo-Olu’s reception of the President at the airport formed part of the activities surrounding Tinubu’s return to the country.
Other senior government officials and political figures were also present at the airport to receive the President.
The arrival took place at the Presidential Wing of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Ikeja.
Reports said Tinubu’s aircraft arrived in Lagos on Tuesday evening after departing Paris.
The President’s return has also brought renewed attention to his upcoming engagements in Lagos.
According to the Presidency, Tinubu is expected to remain in Lagos for a series of meetings before returning to Abuja.
Sanwo-Olu’s message focused on welcoming the President back to Lagos following his overseas working vacation.
The governor’s reception also highlighted Lagos’ role as the President’s first destination upon returning to Nigeria.
Tinubu’s European trip included engagements in both London and Paris, with the Presidency describing the period as a working vacation.
During his stay in France, the President also witnessed developments relating to investment and infrastructure projects involving Nigerian stakeholders and international businesses.
With the President now back in Nigeria, attention is expected to shift to his scheduled activities in Lagos and the Independence Anniversary programme.
His return also comes as political parties and stakeholders prepare for the 2027 general elections, with the Presidency confirming that strategic meetings with political leaders and associates are expected in Lagos.
Sanwo-Olu, in his message, welcomed the President back and expressed his pleasure at receiving him in Lagos.
