2027: Hamzat Calls for Stronger People Engagement as APC Council Begins Work

Lagos State Deputy Governor and All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, has joined party leaders to inaugurate the Lagos State APC Campaign Council ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Epe Insights reports that the inauguration was held on Friday at the APC Secretariat on ACME Road, Ikeja, bringing together the party chairman, campaign officials and other stakeholders.

Hamzat attended the event alongside the Lagos State APC Chairman, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, and other leaders of the party.

The inauguration marked the formal commencement of activities by the campaign council ahead of the 2027 elections.

The newly inaugurated council has 1,235 members and is headed by former Minister of State for Defence, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, as Director-General.

The campaign structure includes several directorates and committees responsible for different areas of political and organisational activities.

These include legal and compliance, party and inter-party affairs, administration and logistics, traditional institutions, diaspora engagement and residents’ associations.

In a message shared after the inauguration, Hamzat said successful campaigns require hard work and direct engagement with the people.

He said members of the campaign council have the responsibility to listen to Lagos residents and communicate the party’s message clearly.

Hamzat also said the council would work to explain why, in his view, the APC should continue to lead Lagos.

His remarks formed part of his message to party members as the campaign organisation begins its activities ahead of the elections.

The Deputy Governor said the party would not take the trust of Lagos residents for granted.

He added that members of the council were expected to commit time and effort to the assignment before them.

At the inauguration, party leaders also discussed the importance of grassroots engagement and mobilisation ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The Lagos APC chairman, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, called on party members and candidates to strengthen their engagement with communities across the state.

The campaign council is expected to provide the organisational framework for the party’s activities as preparations for the 2027 elections continue.

Its membership brings together political leaders, elected officials, candidates and other party stakeholders across Lagos State.

The council’s structure also provides for coordination across local government areas and local council development areas.

This local-level structure is intended to connect the wider campaign organisation with communities across the state.

The inauguration comes as political parties begin more organised preparations for the 2027 general elections.

Hamzat, who is the APC governorship candidate, is expected to play a central role in the party’s campaign activities in Lagos.

The campaign council will also coordinate activities relating to the party’s candidates contesting various elective positions.

These include the presidential, governorship, National Assembly and State House of Assembly elections.

The campaign structure therefore covers activities beyond the governorship contest and provides a broader framework for the party’s electoral organisation.

Hamzat also urged party members to focus their campaign activities on engagement with the electorate.

According to reports from the inauguration, he called for campaigns based on the party’s records and achievements rather than emotion.

The emphasis on direct engagement places communities and voters at the centre of the campaign activities outlined by the party leadership.

The campaign council’s various committees are expected to undertake responsibilities assigned to them as the electoral process progresses.

The Director-General, Musiliu Obanikoro, also urged members to approach their responsibilities with discipline, sacrifice and commitment.

He said the assignment should be treated as a serious responsibility rather than a ceremonial appointment.

The inauguration consequently marks the beginning of a structured campaign phase for the Lagos APC ahead of the 2027 elections.

For the party, the campaign council provides a platform for coordinating its activities and communicating with voters across Lagos.

For residents, the coming months are expected to bring increased political engagement as parties and candidates present their positions ahead of the elections.

The APC campaign council will operate through its various directorates and committees as it carries out the responsibilities assigned to its members.

Hamzat’s participation at the inauguration also places him within the campaign structure as the party’s governorship candidate and Deputy Chairman of the campaign council.

The inauguration brings together the party’s leadership and campaign machinery as preparations for the 2027 elections move forward.
