The Career Accelerator Programme (CAP) has been launched in Ibeju-Lekki Local Government as a transformative initiative designed to equip young people with practical skills, digital knowledge, and professional exposure needed to succeed in today’s competitive job market.
Epe Insights reports that the Career Accelerator Programme is targeted at youths between the ages of 18 and 35, providing them with opportunities to develop employable skills, build professional networks, and prepare for careers in the fast-growing Ibeju-Lekki industrial corridor.
The programme is being implemented in partnership with Genzaar Eduworld, African Fintech Foundry (AFF), and GIZ through the ZME initiative, bringing together experienced trainers and industry experts to prepare participants for the future of work.
Speaking at the launch, Hon. Olowa said the initiative is one of his administration’s strategic investments in the future of Ibeju-Lekki, stressing that the council must prepare its young population to benefit from the economic transformation taking place across the area.
He explained that Ibeju-Lekki is attracting major investments in manufacturing, technology, logistics, tourism, and other sectors, creating new employment opportunities that require skilled and competent young professionals.
According to the chairman, the Career Accelerator Programme is designed to bridge the gap between education and employment by equipping participants with practical workplace skills demanded by modern industries.
He noted that beyond technical knowledge, the programme will expose participants to mentorship, career guidance, leadership development, communication skills, problem-solving techniques, and workplace ethics.
Hon. Olowa said beneficiaries will gain valuable insights into career planning, entrepreneurship, innovation, and digital literacy, positioning them to compete successfully in both local and global labour markets.
He added that participants will also benefit from interactions with experienced professionals who will mentor and guide them towards achieving their career goals.
The chairman explained that the programme is not only about securing employment but also about nurturing entrepreneurs capable of creating businesses and generating employment opportunities for others.
Earlier in the day, Hon. Olowa commissioned the newly completed 900-metre Lakowe–Losoro–Lagasa Road, noting that infrastructure development and human capital investment must go hand in hand.
He said while roads, public facilities, and industrial investments create opportunities, it is properly equipped youths who will maximise those opportunities and drive sustainable development.
As part of the initiative, the chairman also commissioned a modern ICT Centre that will serve as the training venue for the Career Accelerator Programme.
The facility is equipped with computers, internet connectivity, and digital learning resources that will enable participants to receive practical technology-based training in a conducive environment.
Hon. Olowa described the ICT Centre as an investment in the future, providing young people with access to modern tools that will enhance their competitiveness in an increasingly digital economy.
He encouraged participants to approach the programme with seriousness, discipline, and a willingness to learn, reminding them that the knowledge and experience gained could shape their future careers.
The chairman urged beneficiaries to take advantage of every mentorship session, practical exercise, and networking opportunity provided throughout the programme.
He reaffirmed that his administration remains committed to expanding youth-focused initiatives that promote education, innovation, entrepreneurship, and sustainable employment.
Stakeholders commended the launch of the programme, describing it as a timely intervention that will empower young people with practical skills needed to meet the demands of today’s workforce.
They expressed confidence that the Career Accelerator Programme would help reduce youth unemployment while supporting economic growth and community development in Ibeju-Lekki.
