The Ibeju-Lekki Ancestral Communities have announced an emergency stakeholders’ meeting to address key development and safety issues affecting coastal areas within the region.

Eko Hot News reports that the meeting is scheduled for Sunday, 21st June 2027, at Eleko Town Hall, and will focus on the 150-metre coastal road setback, security matters, and motorcycle operations in the area.

Community leaders stated that the gathering will provide a platform to review ongoing engagements with government authorities regarding the coastal setback policy.

Residents have expressed concern that the setback could affect lives and pose risks to cultural heritage and historical landmarks located along the coastal corridor.

The meeting is expected to bring together traditional leaders, youth representatives, stakeholders, and community groups to deliberate on a common position.

Leaders also plan to acknowledge the efforts of the Ibeju-Lekki Local Government Chairman, Hon. (Engr.) Abdullahi Sesan Olowa, for strengthening security across the region.

They described his interventions as proactive measures that have contributed to improved safety in local communities.

At the same time, concerns will be raised over motorcycle operations during late hours along the Eleko coastal axis.

Community representatives are expected to call for stricter regulation and possible restrictions on night movement of motorcycles in the area.

According to the planning committee, the meeting will also provide updates on discussions previously held with government officials on the setback policy.

They emphasized the need for continued dialogue to ensure that development projects do not negatively impact heritage sites and community livelihoods.

Leaders stressed that while they support infrastructure development, it must be balanced with environmental protection and cultural preservation.

The committee reiterated its call for a possible review or waiver of the 150-metre coastal setback regulation.

They noted that coastal communities have a long history tied to the land and surrounding marine environment that must be preserved.

Stakeholders are expected to deliberate on safety, environmental sustainability, and long-term development plans for the area.

The meeting is also aimed at strengthening unity among community members and ensuring coordinated representation in engagements with authorities.

Organizers encouraged full participation from all affected groups to ensure inclusive decision-making.

They further congratulated residents on the peaceful celebration of the recent Ileya festival, describing it as a sign of community harmony.

Security remains a key concern on the agenda, with leaders seeking improved coordination between local authorities and residents.

The gathering is expected to conclude with resolutions that will guide future negotiations with government agencies.

Community leaders reaffirmed their commitment to peaceful dialogue and constructive engagement on all development-related matters.
