Hon. Abdullahi Sesan Olowa has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to environmental cleanliness after participating in the May edition of the Monthly Environmental Sanitation Exercise across Ibeju-Lekki Local Government.

Epe Insights reports that the council chairman joined sanitation teams and residents from the early hours of the day to carry out extensive cleaning activities across major roads, drainage channels, markets, and public spaces within the local government area.

The exercise witnessed active participation from residents, environmental stakeholders, and community volunteers who turned out in large numbers to support the initiative. The sanitation drive focused on improving environmental conditions and promoting a cleaner and healthier community.

During the exercise, sanitation teams cleared refuse from key locations and restored order in several public areas. Efforts were concentrated on maintaining cleanliness and ensuring that waste did not obstruct public infrastructure.

Attention was also directed toward black spots and illegal waste disposal points identified across strategic communities. Environmental workers removed accumulated waste and addressed areas that had become environmental concerns.

Blocked drainage channels were cleared to improve water flow and reduce the risk of flooding, particularly as communities prepare for increased rainfall. The exercise formed part of broader efforts to safeguard public health and environmental sustainability.

Roadside waste and refuse heaps were also removed from several locations to enhance the appearance of the local government and create a more pleasant environment for residents and visitors.

According to him, the administration remains committed to strengthening environmental sanitation programmes across Ibeju-Lekki. He stated that regular sanitation exercises will continue to receive support as part of efforts to improve public welfare.

Hon. Olowa noted that cleanliness should not be viewed as a one-day activity but as a continuous responsibility shared by all residents. He encouraged individuals, businesses, and community groups to contribute actively to keeping their surroundings clean.

He further stressed the need for environmental discipline, urging residents to make use of approved waste disposal systems and comply with environmental regulations established by the local government.
