The Executive Chairman of Epe Local Government, Hon. Princess Surah O. Animashaun, FHTI, has approved the full payment of medical, mortuary, and burial expenses for victims of the tragic sand truck accident.
Epe Insights reports that the Chairman’s intervention includes the complete takeover of medical treatment for all injured victims currently receiving care at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Epe, as well as full coverage of burial and mortuary-related costs for those who lost their lives in the incident.
Acting on the Chairman’s directive, the Chief of Staff, Hon. Odupe Fuad Tunde, on Tuesday visited the Emergency Department of FMC Epe to assess the condition of the victims and convey the Chairman’s message of empathy and support.
During the visit, he interacted with patients, their families, and medical personnel while monitoring the progress of treatment.
Hon. Odupe Fuad Tunde assured victims and relatives that the local government would stand firmly with them throughout their recovery, stressing that no family would be left to bear the burden of the tragedy alone.
He confirmed that all medical bills incurred by the victims would be fully settled by the local government.
Beyond medical care, Epe Local Government also provided support for the deceased. Victims whose families were not immediately ready for burial were conveyed to the Ijebu Ode Mortuary using government ambulances, with all associated expenses covered. Cemetery bills for families who carried out immediate burials were equally settled.
The Chief of Staff commended the management and medical team of FMC Epe for their swift and professional response.
In return, the hospital management expressed appreciation for the timely and humane intervention by the Epe Local Government.
The accident reportedly occurred around 7:45pm when a truck loaded with sharp sand developed mechanical faults while climbing the Hospital Road hill.
