Ibeju-Lekki Local Government has commenced discussions with the Sahara Group Foundation on the establishment of a recycling hub aimed at promoting environmental sustainability and economic empowerment.

Epe Insights reports that The Executive Chairman of Ibeju-Lekki Local Government, Hon. Engr. Abdullahi Sesan Olowa, received a delegation from the Sahara Group Foundation at the Council Secretariat to deliberate on the proposed Sahara Recycling Hub.

The initiative is designed to enable residents to exchange recyclable materials such as plastics, paper, and other reusable waste items for cash rewards.

The project is expected to encourage proper waste management while providing residents with an additional source of income.

Welcoming the delegation, Hon. Olowa described the initiative as timely and aligned with his administration’s vision of building a cleaner, greener, and more prosperous Ibeju-Lekki.

He stated that the recycling hub would help reduce environmental pollution and empower residents by turning waste into economic value.

According to the chairman, the project also supports the development of a circular economy and strengthens community participation in environmental protection.

Hon. Olowa commended the Sahara Group Foundation for expanding its recycling initiatives across Lagos State.

He assured the Foundation of the local government’s readiness to provide the necessary support for the smooth take-off and sustainability of the project.

Speaking on behalf of the Sahara Group Foundation, Mrs. Folashade Adebanjo appreciated the warm reception and reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to community-focused sustainability programmes.

She expressed optimism that the partnership with Ibeju-Lekki Local Government would deliver lasting environmental and socio-economic benefits to residents.

Both parties agreed to sustain engagements toward finalizing plans for the launch of the recycling hub.
