The 2025 Eredo Local Council Development Area (LCDA) Chairman’s Cup football tournament has come to a thrilling close at A.U.D Primary School, Odo-Egiri, drawing large crowds and celebrating grassroots football excellence.

Epe Insights reports that the final match between Iraye FC and Egiri United ended goalless in regulation time before Iraye FC edged out their opponents 7–6 in a tense penalty shootout to lift the Chairman’s Cup trophy.

With the victory, Iraye FC emerged champions of the tournament and received a cash prize of ₦1.5 million, rewarding their resilience and consistency throughout the competition.

Egiri United settled for second place after a strong showing in the tournament, earning a trophy and a ₦800,000 cash reward for their efforts.

The third-place match between Iragunshin FC and Odoshiwola FC also produced high drama, ending in a 0–0 draw before Iragunshin FC triumphed 8–7 on penalties.

Iragunshin FC secured third position and went home with a trophy and ₦500,000 prize money, while Odoshiwola FC finished fourth after an impressive campaign.

Speaking at the closing ceremony, the Executive Chairman of Eredo LCDA described the tournament as more than a sporting competition, noting that it was designed as a platform for youth empowerment and talent development.

He emphasized that football remains a unifying tool capable of promoting discipline, teamwork, and peaceful coexistence among young people across communities.

The chairman added that the council would continue to invest in sports initiatives as part of its broader strategy to engage youths positively and strengthen community cohesion.

The successful conclusion of the Chairman’s Cup reaffirmed Eredo LCDA’s commitment to grassroots sports development and youth-focused programmes.
