Senator Mukhail Tokunbo Abiru has launched a major empowerment initiative across Lagos East, unveiling 48 cooperative societies, distributing essential work tools to 2,000 residents, and providing 12,000 food packs to households ahead of the festive season.
Epe Insights reports that the programmes were officially rolled out on Monday, December 8, 2025, covering all 16 local government areas and LCDAs within the district. The event attracted community leaders, political officeholders, and beneficiaries who commended the senator’s commitment to grassroots development.

Each of the 48 cooperative societies received a takeoff grant of ₦10 million, totalling ₦480 million in funding. The cooperatives are designed to improve access to capital and support economic activities among traders, artisans, farmers and other local entrepreneurs.
The empowerment component saw 2,000 residents equipped with work tools and starter kits tailored to their trades, including generators, deep freezers, sewing machines, grinding machines, hair dryers, and industrial sewing equipment.

Senator Abiru reminded beneficiaries that their success reflects the progress of the Lagos East Senatorial District and urged disciplined utilisation of the resources provided to ensure sustainable growth and impact.
The food pack distribution reached 12,000 families across the district as part of festive support. Abiru noted that more than 48,000 families have benefited from similar initiatives in previous years.
Dignitaries at the event included APC State Chairman Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, the Ayangbure of Ikorodu HRM Oba Kabir Adewale Shotobi, former Deputy Governor Prince Abiodun Ogunleye, and Conference 57 Chairman Hon. Engr. Abdullahi Sesan Olowa, who praised Abiru’s outreach efforts.
