The ancient town of Epe is in mourning as it bids farewell to a revered royal figure, His Royal Majesty, Oba Dr. Shefiu Adewale Bamgbopa, Eshilokun I, the Olu-Epe of Epe Kingdom, who passed away peacefully at the age of 87.
EpeInsights reports that in an emotional tribute, the Federal Lawmaker representing Epe Federal Constituency, Hon. Wale Raji, described the late monarch as “the soul of our community”, hailing his reign as a beacon of peace, fairness, and transformation for the people of Epe.
The monarch’s passing comes just weeks before a grand celebration was to be held in honour of his 15th coronation anniversary—a milestone that would have marked a decade and a half of devoted and dignified leadership.
“His passing marks the end of a significant chapter in our history, one that was written with humility, wisdom, and uncommon grace,” Raji said.
Oba Bamgbopa, who ascended the throne in 2010 as the 19th Olu-Epe of Eko-Epe, brought decades of civil service experience into royal leadership, earning widespread admiration for his integrity and simplicity. His commitment to unity and community upliftment made him a beloved figure in Epe and beyond.
“He led not from a place of pride, but from a heart committed to unity, equity, and the upliftment of all,” the lawmaker added, urging the community to preserve the late king’s legacy by upholding his values of peace, humility, and service.
As condolences pour in from across the region, Raji prayed for Almighty Allah to grant the monarch eternal rest and to comfort the royal family, the traditional council, and the entire Epe community.
Oba Bamgbopa’s legacy, etched in the hearts of his people, will live on — not just in memory, but in the continued spirit of unity and purpose he inspired.
