The coastal town of Epe was alive with color, culture and community spirit over the weekend during its iconic Ojude Oba festival.

But this year’s event carried more than just festive cheer: it also became a platform for political and communal reflection as Hon.Wale Raji, the federal lawmaker representing Epe Federal Constituency, addressed the ongoing leadership crisis gripping the community.
In his carefully worded remarks, Rep. Raji referred to the tensions that have simmered since the demise of the late Olu-Epe, a respected traditional leader whose passing has left a vacuum and sparked a tussle over succession.
“This is a time that calls for maturity and restraint. Let us handle the situation with wisdom, for the betterment of the entire community.”
Raji urged all parties involved to set aside personal ambitions and prioritize peace, reminding the audience that Epe’s strength lies in its unity and its ability to resolve internal disputes with dignity and tradition.
The lawmaker’s message came during the peak of the Ojude Oba festival, a culturally significant event held during Eid-el-Kabir.
The festival features age-grade parades, musical performances, and tributes to royal heritage, serving both as a celebration of identity and a moment of reflection for the people of Epe.
Community elders and youth groups were present in large numbers, listening intently as Rep. Raji appealed for a peaceful path forward.
“Our community is watching. The state is watching. Even the world is watching. Let us show them that Epe is bigger than any individual interest.”
He also used the occasion to highlight his continued commitment to development in the region, including roads, educational projects, and youth empowerment.
“I remain committed to serving you—not just with words, but with results,” he said.
As Epe navigates this transitional period, many residents welcomed Raji’s words as a timely intervention that could help cool tensions and encourage a consensus-driven solution.
