Power Relief in Sight for Epe Businesses

Prolonged power outages have taken a heavy toll on businesses across Epe township and surrounding communities, forcing traders and artisans to depend on petrol and diesel generators to stay afloat.

Epe Insights reports that rising fuel costs significantly increased operating expenses, shrinking profit margins and pushing many small businesses to the brink.

Cold-room operators suffered losses from spoiled goods, while barbers, tailors, digital service providers and charging centres struggled to operate consistently or relocated to areas with stable electricity.

The blackout affected more than income. Business hours were cut short, customer confidence dropped, and job losses followed as operators laid off staff to survive. For an axis widely viewed as Lagos State’s emerging growth corridor, the energy crisis became a major setback.

Hope, however, is emerging. Hon. Abiodun Tobun, representing Epe Constituency I in the Lagos State House of Assembly, disclosed that the Lagos State Government has approved substantial funding for a power step-down facility, alongside alternative solar power solutions for the area.

While the step-down facility promises long-term power stability, the proposed solar intervention offers immediate relief. Solar energy presents a cost-effective and environmentally friendly option, reducing reliance on fuel-powered generators and lowering overhead costs for businesses.

The intervention is expected to restore productivity, extend business hours and attract new investors to the local economy. Small enterprises will be better positioned to scale, while the community builds resilience against future power disruptions.

As Epe continues to align itself with Lekki’s expansion, supported by projects like the Fourth Mainland Bridge, a proposed international airport and port developments, stable electricity remains critical. If delivered as promised, the power intervention could signal a new era of economic recovery and growth for Epe.
