The Executive Chairman of Ibeju-Lekki Local Government, Hon. (Engr.) Abdullahi Sesan Olowa has called for deeper collaboration between Lagos State local governments and the National Population Commission (NPC) to strengthen civil registration and grassroots data management.
Epe Insights reports that Olowa made the call while attending the NPC VITALREG NPC–Barnksforte Retreat held at Lakowe Lakes, Ibeju-Lekki, where key stakeholders reviewed strategies for improving birth registration and population data systems.
Speaking at the retreat, Olowa, who also chairs Lagos Conference 57, stressed that effective synergy among the 20 Local Government Areas, 37 Local Council Development Areas, and the NPC is critical to deepening grassroots engagement and ensuring accurate population records across Lagos State.

He highlighted the recent launch of the electronic Civil Registration and Vital Statistics (e-CRVS) initiative by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, noting that the programme was introduced in partnership with UNICEF, the NPC, and ALGON to ensure that every child born in Lagos State is captured in the national database.
According to Olowa, the e-CRVS initiative will enhance data-driven planning, social service delivery, and inclusive development while preventing cases of undocumented births.

In his remarks, NPC Chairman, Dr. Aminu Yusuf (Talban Wushishi), commended the Lagos State Government and local government chairmen for their sustained support toward strengthening civil registration and vital statistics.
He noted that Lagos State’s commitment has significantly improved data systems and positioned the state as a model for effective population management.
The retreat served as a platform for reinforcing partnerships, sharing best practices, and advancing strategies to improve population data accuracy and service delivery across Lagos State.
