The Nigerian Association of Medical and Dental Academics (NAMDA) has clarified that it is not participating in any ongoing or planned strike action within the nation’s university system.

EpeInsights reports that the association reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining normal academic, clinical, and research activities across all medical and dental colleges and faculties in Nigerian universities.

In a statement signed by Dr. Mohammed Askira, the National Liaison Secretary, on behalf of the NAMDA President, the association advised its members, medical students and the general public to disregard any misinformation suggesting that NAMDA had joined an industrial strike.

“Our members across all medical and dental colleges and faculties in Nigerian universities are hereby advised to continue their normal academic, clinical, and research activities without disruption,” the statement said.

NAMDA emphasised that it remains committed to constructive engagement with relevant government authorities in pursuit of reforms that would strengthen medical education, research and healthcare delivery in Nigeria.

The association also acknowledged the efforts of the Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Olatunji Alausa, for initiating dialogue on NAMDA’s demands and expressed optimism that he would deliver on his promises.

“The NAMDA continues to stand firm in its struggles for improved welfare, conducive working environments, and the strengthening of Nigeria’s medical education system — all through the positive collaborative dialogue and practical commitments we have received from the current Minister of Education,” the statement added.

The association further reminded Vice Chancellors of universities that NAMDA members remain fully engaged in their duties and therefore must not be subjected to any punitive measures under the “No Work, No Pay” policy.

“We wish to remind all Vice Chancellors that members of NAMDA will be on their duty post and therefore will not tolerate undue application of ‘No Work, No Pay’ to our members,” Dr. Askira stated.

“Vice Chancellors are reminded that it is their responsibility to ensure the maintenance of law and order in campuses, including Colleges of Medicine, and to create an enabling environment for our members.”

NAMDA reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to professionalism, service, and collaboration in advancing the quality of medical education and healthcare in Nigeria.
