The Lagos State Government has announced plans to arraign 52 individuals arrested during a coordinated weekend crackdown on street crime and environmental violations across high-traffic areas of the state.

EpeInsights  gathered that the arrests were made on Saturday by the Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences Enforcement Unit during a routine clean-up and enforcement exercise targeting street urchins, pickpockets, and other suspected miscreants.

According to a statement released on Sunday by the agency’s spokesperson, Gbadeyan Abdulraheem, the operation covered strategic locations including Lekki, Ikoyi, Falomo Bridge, Eko Hotel axis, and Ligali Ayorinde.

“All suspects arrested during the operation will be charged to court in accordance with the law,” the statement said, adding that the action followed increasing complaints from residents about criminal activity in those areas.

The Chairman of the Task Force, CSP Adetayo Akerele, who led the operation, said the initiative is part of an ongoing strategy to restore order and safety across Lagos.

“A total of 52 suspects—51 males and one female—were taken into custody. We remain committed to conducting regular enforcement exercises to sanitize the city and deter criminal elements,” Akerele stated.

He noted that the agency will now conduct bi-weekly operations to intensify efforts aimed at maintaining law and order and protecting businesses and residents from harassment and street-level crimes.

“We urge individuals engaged in activities that threaten public peace to desist immediately. Lagos will not be a haven for criminality,” he warned.

The Task Force reaffirmed its commitment to enhancing public safety and enforcing environmental regulations, emphasizing that the operation is part of a broader campaign to improve urban security and livability in Africa’s largest city.
