The Lagos State Government has set a target of 1,000 applications for recruitment into the Nigerian Army’s ongoing 89th Regular Recruits Intake for Trades/Non-Tradesmen and Women.

EpeInsights reports that the Secretary to the State Government, Mrs. Bimbola Salu-Hundeyin, made the announcement during a sensitization programme aimed at educating the public about the recruitment process.

The event was held at two locations: the Igando-Ikotun Local Council Development Area (LCDA) and the Ikeja Local Government Secretariat.

Salu-Hundeyin stated that, as of the programme date, 600 Lagos indigenes had already applied for the recruitment.

However, the state is hopeful of exceeding 1,000 applications before the final deadline, May 17.

She further emphasized that the Federal Governments directive under President Bola Tinubu had mandated that each state in the federation recruit at least 150 indigenes into the military, and the Lagos State Government aims to ensure that this goal is met and exceeded through this initiative.

“Why we are here is extremely important. It is a national call, a call to service. It is a call to serve our fatherland, our motherland, Nigeria, and a call to serve our state,” said Salu-Hundeyin, stressing the nobility of joining the military, which plays a critical role in safeguarding the nation.

She also encouraged eligible Lagos indigenes aged between 18 and 26 to apply, pointing out that the Nigerian Army offers free training in various fields, including law, medicine, and other professions.

Additionally, Mrs. Mojisola Badmus, Vice-Chairman of Igando-Ikotun LCDA, urged parents to support their children’s decision to join the military, citing the army’s diverse opportunities beyond just combat roles.

“The Nigerian Armed Forces have several departments that our children can represent,” she said.

“It is not just about war, but about protecting our land. If we don’t protect it, who will?”

The Lagos State Government is confident that the targeted 1,000 applications will not only meet the federal requirement but also serve as an opportunity for Lagosians to contribute to the nation’s security and development while gaining valuable skills.
