In a spirited show of commitment to its youngest citizens, the Lagos State Government has announced a grand week-long celebration in honour of the 2025 Children’s Day, under the theme “Children: Our Future and Our Responsibility.”
EpeInsights reports that the celebrations, set to blend education, culture, religion and fun-filled festivities are designed to uplift, inspire and empower children across the state.
It will run from Tuesday, May 20th to Tuesday, May 27th,
Kicking off the week, a Youth Forum and Career Talk will take place at 10:00 a.m. on May 20th at the Education Resource Centre (ERC) Hall in Ojodu-Berger.
Simultaneously, a Debate Competition will be held at the Co-Curricular Services Division Office in Akoka. These early events aim to engage students in critical thinking and future career planning.
On Wednesday, May 21st, the spotlight will shift to culture as the ERC Hall in Ojodu-Berger hosts a Cultural Display at 10:00 a.m., showcasing the rich traditions and artistic talents of young Lagosians.
The week will also feature interfaith observances. A Jumat Service is scheduled for Friday, May 23rd, at the Alausa Secretariat Mosque in Ikeja at 12:00 noon.
This will be followed by a Thanksgiving Service on Sunday, May 25th, at the Chapel of Christ the Light, also in Alausa, starting at 10:00 a.m.
The festivities will culminate in a grand finale on Tuesday, May 27th the official Children’s Day in Nigeria with a Parade and Rally at the Police College Ground in Ikeja, beginning at 8:00 a.m.
The event is expected to draw dignitaries, educators, parents, and of course, thousands of children from across the state.
Children’s Day, observed annually on May 27th in Nigeria, serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of investing in the well-being, safety, and development of the next generation.
In a statement, the Lagos State Government reaffirmed its “unwavering dedication to nurturing and empowering the next generation,” calling children “indispensable contributors to the State’s future prosperity.”
This comprehensive celebration, the government added, “reflects our collective responsibility to ensure every child in Lagos is given the tools, opportunities, and support to thrive and achieve their full potential.”
As the state gears up for a vibrant and meaningful celebration, all eyes are on Lagos to once again set the pace in championing child development and welfare in Nigeria.
