Lagos State Government Issues Stop-Work Orders Over Waterfront Setback Violations

Lagos State Ministry of Waterfront Infrastructure Development (MWID) has taken strong action against developers violating the State’s waterfront setback regulations.

EpeInsights reports that multiple stop-work orders and contravention notices were issued during a recent inspection.

The MWID monitoring team conducted a tour of ongoing projects across several estates, including Megamound Estate in Lekki County, Victoria Crest III & IV, Oral Estate, and Pine Estate along Orchid Road. Several of the structures inspected were flagged for encroaching on designated waterfront setback areas, in clear violation of the state’s building regulations.

Commissioner for MWID, Honourable Ekundayo Alebiosu, emphasized the importance of adherence to waterfront regulatory laws and stressed that all stakeholders must ensure proper approvals are obtained before commencing any development near the State’s waterfronts.

“We are committed to safeguarding the integrity of our waterfronts, and it is critical that developers comply with the designated setback areas,” Honourable Alebiosu said. “These regulations are in place to protect the environment and ensure that developments do not pose a threat to our waterfront infrastructure.”

He also warned that future inspections would result in a complete clampdown on non-compliant structures, urging developers to cease all violations immediately or face legal consequences.

The MWID’s actions underline the government’s determination to maintain order and enforce the rules surrounding waterfront development, ensuring that all future projects adhere to established guidelines.
