The Lagos State Health Facility Monitoring and Accreditation Agency (HEFAMAA) has launched a new initiative designed to transform how residents access healthcare information.

EpeInsights reports that through the introduction of QR Code Stickers at health facilities across the state both public and private, HEFAMAA aims to promote transparency, improve quality of care and eliminate quackery.

This pilot phase of the QR Code Sticker Initiative makes it possible for anyone with a smartphone to instantly verify whether a health facility is registered and accredited.

By simply scanning the code at the entrance of a facility, patients can access critical information such as the facility’s name, address, registration number, license status, contact details, hours of operation and the types of services offered. Additional details such as service ratings, the name of the contact person, and a feedback option are also available.

According to Dr. Abiola Idowu, Permanent Secretary of HEFAMAA, the goal is to empower the public with the tools they need to make informed decisions about where they receive care. She emphasized that this system offers more than just convenience, it creates a direct line between patients and regulators, allowing people to report substandard services or unethical practices in real time.

Dr. Idowu highlighted that the initiative directly supports HEFAMAA’s mission to monitor and accredit all health facilities operating in Lagos.

She noted that by digitizing and publicly displaying facility credentials, the Agency is taking firm action against illegal and unaccredited health providers who pose a serious risk to public health.

Describing the initiative as a “game-changer,” Dr. Idowu reiterated the state’s zero-tolerance policy on quackery.

She assured residents that HEFAMAA is committed to protecting their well-being and will continue to deploy smart digital tools and strong regulatory systems to ensure only competent and ethical providers are allowed to operate.

She encouraged all Lagosians to look for the QR code before receiving care, use it to verify a facility’s legitimacy, and share feedback with the Agency whenever necessary.

The message is clear: in Lagos, your health comes first—and now, with a quick scan, so does the truth about where you receive care.Lagos Introduces QR Code System to Boost Healthcare Transparency and Fight Quackery
