In a bid to strengthen access to quality healthcare at the grassroots, the Lagos State Health District II, in collaboration with the Bariga Local Council Development Area (LCDA), has organized a Free Medical Outreach for residents of Bariga and its environs.
The initiative, which formed part of activities marking the first 100 days in office of Hon. Adedeji Bukola Omope, Chairman of Bariga LCDA, aimed to enhance community health by providing essential medical services to thousands of residents.
Speaking during the outreach, the Permanent Secretary, Lagos Health District II, Dr. Dayo Lajide, commended the Bariga LCDA Chairman for her commitment to improving the health and well-being of residents within her first 100 days in office.
Dr. Lajide explained that the outreach aligns with the District’s goal of bringing healthcare closer to the people across all Local Governments and LCDAs under its supervision.
“Our mission is to ensure that no resident is left behind in accessing essential health services. Partnerships like this help us reach more people, strengthen preventive care, and improve overall well-being,” she said.
The outreach featured a wide range of health services, including health education, blood pressure and blood sugar checks, medical consultations, drug dispensing, tuberculosis screening, oral care, eye tests, and distribution of reading glasses and mama kits for pregnant women.
Dr. Lajide also used the opportunity to highlight the ongoing Polio Outbreak Response (OBR) vaccination across communities within Health District II. She urged parents and caregivers to ensure every eligible child receives the polio vaccine to sustain Lagos State’s polio-free status.
She further encouraged residents to enroll in the Ilera Eko Health Insurance Scheme, noting that it provides affordable and continuous access to quality healthcare for all Lagosians.
The event drew the presence of the former Chairman of Bariga LCDA, members of the Legislative Council, ward councillors, community leaders, and hundreds of residents, who commended the collaboration between the District and the LCDA for bringing healthcare closer to the grassroots.
