“In the wake of the incident, our immediate priority was the health and safety of those affected. We provided prompt medical care, with all related expenses fully covered by our public transportation insurance policy. This swift response highlights our unwavering commitment to passenger safety. We have also heightened safety measures and inspections across our entire fleet and terminals to reinforce our dedication to maintaining secure waterways,” Balogun stated.

Hon. Balogun further highlighted that the agency’s steadfast adherence to Environmental, Health, Safety, and Quality (EHSQ) protocols played a crucial role in preventing a major disaster at the Ipakodo Terminal. Thanks to strict safety measures and effective collaboration with other agencies, potential damage to boats and terminal infrastructure was minimized.

As part of LAGFERRY’s growth and improvement strategy, Hon. Balogun shared that the agency has successfully retrofitted its boats to meet modern safety and performance standards. Additionally, LAGFERRY is making significant progress with the construction of a state-of-the-art drydock facility, which will serve as a central hub for fleet maintenance.

“Retrofitting our boats enhances the longevity of our fleet, ensuring that passengers experience smoother, safer, and more efficient rides across Lagos’ waterways. The new drydock facility will allow us to maintain our fleet in peak condition while minimizing downtime and operational costs. This will not only boost our self-reliance but also contribute to the long-term sustainability of water transportation in Lagos,” said Balogun.

He concluded by assuring passengers that LAGFERRY remains steadfast in providing safe, efficient, and innovative water transport solutions. “Our ongoing efforts in fleet retrofitting, human capital development, and infrastructure expansion reinforce our mission to continuously improve the water transportation system in Lagos,” Balogun added.
