The Lekki Local Council Development Area has launched a sensitisation programme to address rising cases of bullying in schools within its jurisdiction.
Epe Insights reports that the initiative followed complaints submitted to the office of the Executive Chairman, Rasaki Bamidele Kasali, concerning student-to-student bullying, parent concerns, and reported misunderstandings between students and teachers.
In response, the Chairman directed the Education and Library Services Department to implement firm and proactive measures to curb the trend and safeguard students’ welfare.
The sensitisation programme, organised by the department under the leadership of Princess Eniola Bolajoko Oluwatosin, was held at the council auditorium. It brought together students, parents, and teachers to discuss the academic and psychological impact of bullying.
Speaking at the event, counselling psychologist Dr Bukola Lawal stressed that fear and intimidation undermine effective learning. She advocated early intervention, sustained awareness, and structured support systems within school communities.
A key highlight of the programme was the inauguration of Anti-Bullying Ambassadors. Selected students were empowered to promote positive behaviour, serve as peer role models, and promptly report incidents of bullying in their schools.
Dr Yemisi Ayemoba of the Local Government Educational Authority commended the Chairman’s swift intervention. She described the initiative as a practical step toward creating a safe and supportive learning environment.
As part of follow-up measures, the council announced plans to install anti-bullying banners across schools and continue regular monitoring visits. Interactive engagement sessions will also be sustained to track progress.
The council reaffirmed its commitment to protecting students and fostering an inclusive atmosphere where every child can learn and thrive without fear.
