Fresh heaps of refuse have resurfaced at the Container U-turn in Awoyaya, barely two days after sanitation workers cleared the area as part of ongoing environmental enforcement in Ibeju-Lekki.

Epe Insights reports that the local government’s sanitation team had earlier evacuated waste from the hotspot using garbage collection tricycles, alongside intensified monitoring across Awoyaya and neighbouring communities such as Lakowe, Losoro, and Ogunfayo.

Authorities described the recurrence as a deliberate act of illegal dumping that undermines efforts to maintain environmental sanitation, road safety, and the visual appeal of emerging residential and commercial corridors in the area.

The council said such actions threaten public health and damage the collective progress made by residents, businesses, and government teams committed to keeping Ibeju-Lekki clean and investment-friendly.

In response, the Chairman has directed the Environmental Services Department and the task force to immediately mobilise for another clearance operation at the Awoyaya Container U-turn.

He also ordered strengthened surveillance and patrols in the identified hotspot and other vulnerable locations within the local government.

Officials confirmed that strict penalties would be enforced against offenders in line with the administration’s zero-tolerance policy on illegal dumping. Recent arrests and fines in similar cases, the council noted, demonstrate its resolve to sustain compliance.

Residents, shop owners, and business operators around the Awoyaya Container axis have been urged to report anyone caught disposing of refuse at unauthorised sites. Authorities assured that anonymous tips will be protected.

The council reaffirmed its commitment to sustained sanitation enforcement and community partnership to preserve the environment and enhance the quality of life across Ibeju-Lekki.
