The Executive Chairman of Ibeju-Lekki Local Government, Hon. (Engr.) Abdullahi Sesan Olowa participated in the 3-Day Onboarding and Retreat for elected councillors from Lagos State’s 57 Local Government and Local Council Development Areas, held at Novatel Hotels.
Epe Insights reports that the retreat, themed “Building Capacity for Improved Legislation and Representation at the Grassroots,” aimed to enhance councillors’ legislative competence, leadership skills, and representative responsibilities. The program focused on effective grassroots governance, people-oriented lawmaking, and promoting inclusive community development.

Hon. Olowa’s attendance highlights his commitment to strengthening governance at the grassroots level. He underscored the importance of equipping elected officials with the necessary skills to deliver meaningful democratic dividends to their communities.
The retreat featured interactive sessions, workshops, and practical exercises designed to help councillors understand the intricacies of lawmaking, community engagement, and public service delivery. Participants were encouraged to adopt innovative approaches to problem-solving and representation.

Leaders from various local government areas exchanged experiences and best practices, fostering collaboration and knowledge sharing among councillors. The initiative aimed to create a unified vision for legislative effectiveness across Lagos State.
Hon. Olowa reiterated the need for continuous capacity building for all elected officials, emphasising that well-trained councillors are critical to achieving sustainable development and responsive governance.
