As Nigeria marks Democracy Day, the Executive Chairman of Ibeju Lekki Local Government, Hon. (Engr.) Abdullahi Sesan Olowa, has extended warm greetings to all citizens, celebrating the strength and resilience of the country’s democratic journey.

EpeInsights reports that Hon. Olowa in a goodwill message made available to the public described democracy not merely as a system of government, but as a reflection of the collective aspirations, values and unwavering commitment of the people to the principles of freedom, justice and equality.

“Democracy is the power of the people, given under the law. It is our responsibility to uphold the rights that come with this mandate and to remain committed to the responsibilities it demands,” he stated.

The Council Chairman urged citizens, especially residents of Ibeju Lekki, to actively participate in the democratic process by making their voices heard and contributing meaningfully to governance in their local communities.

“As we celebrate this day, let us reflect on how far we’ve come and the progress we have made. It is also a time to renew our collective dedication to the development of Ibeju Lekki and Nigeria at large,” he said.

Hon. Olowa paid tribute to the heroes and patriots who fought for Nigeria’s democracy, noting that their sacrifices laid the foundation upon which today’s governance structure is built.

Olowa who called on residents to draw inspiration from their legacy by working together to build a brighter, more inclusive future for all, emphasized the need for unity, cooperation, mutual understanding and respect, describing these values as the cornerstone of true democracy.

“Together, let us continue to build a community that is inclusive, prosperous, and resilient,” Hon. Olowa added, as he concluded his message with a heartfelt wish for a peaceful and joyful Democracy Day celebration.
