The Epe Local Government has joined the global community in commemorating the 2026 World Environment Day with a tree-planting exercise and awareness campaign focused on environmental sustainability.
Epe Insights reports that the initiative was organized by the Environmental Health Services Department under the theme: “Urbanization and Climate Change: Building Resilient Cities for a Sustainable Future.”
The programme highlighted the importance of collective responsibility in addressing environmental challenges and promoting climate resilience across communities.
Representing the Executive Chairman, the Vice Chairman, Hon. Sikiru Owolomoshe, reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to building a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable Epe.
He noted that environmental protection requires active participation from all residents to ensure long-term ecological balance and development.
Hon. Owolomoshe emphasized that tree planting remains a key strategy in mitigating climate change impacts and improving environmental quality.
The Supervisor for Environment, Hon. Lamidi Taofeeq, also stressed the need for stronger environmental awareness among residents.
He urged the public to adopt sustainable practices that support waste reduction, sanitation, and green living.

According to him, environmental responsibility is essential for safeguarding public health and ensuring a livable future for coming generations.
The event attracted key stakeholders including the Secretary to the Local Government, Hon. Rahmon Saheed, and the Supervisor for Health, Hon. Yusuff Samsideen.
Also present were councillors, market leaders such as Iyalojas and Babalojas, members of Community Development Committees, teachers, pupils, and officials of the Environmental Health Services Department.
Participants actively took part in the tree-planting exercise as part of efforts to promote environmental stewardship across the local government.
The initiative reinforced the administration’s focus on sustainable development and proactive environmental management.

Officials noted that such programmes help to raise awareness about the dangers of climate change and the importance of preserving natural resources.
