Epe Local Government has reaffirmed its commitment to the fight against sexual and gender-based violence as it joined the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency in the annual September sensitization campaign.

EpeInsights reports that the programme, which holds every September, aims to intensify public awareness, educate communities, and support survivors of sexual and domestic abuse.

Under the leadership of the Executive Chairman, Princess Surah Animasahun, the campaign kicked off early yesterday with strong participation from women leaders in the council.

Leading the sensitization, the Council Manager, Mrs. Modupe Giwa, charged residents to rise against all forms of abuse, stressing that silence only empowers perpetrators.

“We must create safe spaces in our homes, schools, markets, and religious centres. Everyone has a role to play in breaking the cycle of violence,” she declared.

Also speaking at the event, the Head of Department for Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation (WAPA), Mrs. Apeno Oluwafumilayo, emphasized the need for collective responsibility.

“No man, woman, or child should live in fear of abuse,” she said, urging stakeholders to remain vigilant.

The campaign concluded with a renewed pledge from the community, stakeholders, and council officials to work hand in hand with the state agency to achieve a violence-free society.

As part of its intervention, residents were reminded to report cases of abuse through the toll-free hotline 0800-033-3333.

“Ending sexual and domestic violence is our collective responsibility,” the council stressed.Epe Local Government Joins Campaign Against Sexual and Domestic Violence
