To prevent flooding and ensure smooth water flow during the rainy season, the Chairman of Epe Local Government, Hon. Princess Surah Olayemi Animashaun, has initiated the clearing of drainages along Popo Oba, Lagbade, and Otunba Streets.

EpeInsights reports that a statement released by the Chief Press Secretary to the Chairman, Mr. Olawale Yusuff, said the exercise is part of her broader environmental sustainability agenda aimed at enhancing public health and safety across the community.

Leading the operation is Hon. Tunde Odupe, Supervisor for Environment in the local government, who has been mandated to ensure that all identified drainages are properly cleared and functional.

“This move underscores Hon. Animashaun’s proactive approach to governance and her commitment to the well-being of Epe residents,” Yusuff said, adding that the initiative reflects her focus on sustainable development and effective service delivery.

The Chairman also appealed to residents to take ownership of their environment by refraining from dumping waste into drainages and canals.

“When drains become clogged, stagnant water creates a breeding ground for harmful germs and foul odours. Regular maintenance is crucial for public health,” she said.

The drainage clearing exercise is expected to continue across other flood-prone areas in the local government in the coming weeks.
