In a bid to promote inclusivity and enhance road safety for all residents, the Lagos State Government has announced an upcoming rollout of specially designated vehicle number plates for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs).

EpeInsights reports that the initiative was revealed by Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, during the 2025 ministerial press briefing, marking the second year of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s second term.

According to Osiyemi, the Lagos State Number Plate Production Authority (LSNPPA) will lead the project, which aims to improve the identification of vehicles operated by or serving PWDs.

The move is expected to support better mobility access and drive awareness on the roads.

“This marks a significant step in building a more inclusive transportation ecosystem,” the commissioner stated.

“It will also aid law enforcement and emergency response teams in providing timely assistance to individuals with special needs.”

Osiyemi shared that LSNPPA continues to handle a variety of custom plate services, including:

  • 716 fancy vehicle plates and 347 motorcycle fancy plates,
  • 224 out-of-series number plates based on special requests,
  • 11,152 standard number plate replacements and 212 motorcycle plate replacements,
  • 63 standard fancy plate replacements.

Additionally, the authority has issued over 4,000 plates for articulated vehicles, 1,510 dealer plates, and 428 official number plates.Lagos State Logo

In partnership with the Federal Road Safety Corps, the state is also exploring eco-friendly innovations as part of a broader “Go Green” agenda for vehicle plate production.

On concerns regarding fading number plates, Osiyemi clarified that high-grade materials are used, and deterioration often results from abrasive cleaning agents. “Like everything else, number plates have a lifespan. Regular replacement ensures continued visibility and compliance.”

This initiative aligns with Lagos State’s broader commitment to equitable urban development and its pledge to ensure that no community is left behind in the city’s ongoing transformation.
