The Medical Officer of Health (MOH) for Epe Local Government, Dr Adeleke Awolesi, has called on parents and caregivers to actively participate in the upcoming polio vaccination in Epe, scheduled from Saturday, December 6 to Tuesday, December 9, 2025. The campaign follows the recent detection of the Wild Polio Virus in the Makoko water channels, prompting urgent public health measures.

Epe Insights reports that Dr. Awolesi warned residents against misinformation surrounding vaccines, which has fueled outbreaks of preventable diseases such as Polio, Measles, and Rubella in different parts of the world, including Texas and Canada.

“This exercise is a critical response to prevent an outbreak after detecting the Wild Polio Virus in Makoko water. We don’t have enough resources to tackle complications from unvaccinated children. I urge all parents to give their children a disease-free future by participating,” Dr Awolesi said.

In addition to the vaccination exercise, the Epe Local Government plans to strengthen emergency health responses within the community. Dr Awolesi revealed that a Basic Life Support (BLS) training programme will be rolled out for healthcare workers and school teachers, equipping them with the skills to respond effectively during emergencies.

He also commended the support of Executive Chairman Princess Surah Olayemi Animashaun, noting that Automatic Defibrillators are now in place across the LG, and healthcare workers will be trained for their effective use.

The MOH emphasised that public cooperation is key to safeguarding children’s health and ensuring the success of the vaccination exercise. Residents are encouraged to fully support healthcare workers during the campaign to protect the community from polio outbreaks.
