In a decisive move to strengthen public health and promote environmental safety, the Executive Chairman of Lekki Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Engr. Rasaki Bamidele Kasali (MNSE, MNATE), has flagged off a comprehensive fumigation exercise across all Primary Health Centres (PHCs) and key public facilities within the council area.
EpeInsights learnt that the large-scale operation, supervised by the Environmental Health Department, covered major locations including Lekki PHC, Origanrigan PHC, Magbon Segun PHC, Folu PHC, Idotun PHC, Okunraye PHC, as well as the Doctors’ Quarters and the Lekki LCDA Secretariat.
Engr. Kasali explained that the initiative reflects his administration’s proactive health policy, which prioritizes disease prevention, environmental hygiene, and community well-being.
“A healthy community is a productive community. We are committed to maintaining high standards of sanitation and hygiene in all our public facilities,” he stated.
He added that the exercise is part of ongoing efforts to curb communicable diseases such as malaria, cholera, and other vector-borne illnesses, especially during periods of changing weather conditions that often increase health risks.
The fumigation, according to the council, employed eco-friendly chemicals designed to minimize environmental impact while effectively eradicating pests and pathogens that threaten public health.
Residents and healthcare workers in the affected areas expressed appreciation to the council chairman, describing the initiative as timely, impactful, and commendable. They noted that regular fumigation would enhance the safety of both patients and medical personnel, fostering a cleaner and healthier environment.
Engr. Kasali reaffirmed his administration’s resolve to make routine fumigation a continuous public health measure, emphasizing that such preventive interventions would remain integral to Lekki LCDA’s environmental and healthcare programs.
He concluded by assuring residents that his administration would sustain its commitment to improving healthcare delivery and ensuring a disease-free and hygienic environment across all communities within the council.
