In the wake of the recent heavy downpour that affected parts of Lekki Local Council Development Area (LCDA), the Executive Chairman, Engr. Rasaki Bamidele Kasali (MNSE, MNATE), has embarked on an on-the-spot inspection of flood-affected communities within the council.
EpeInsights learnt that the inspection tour, which took place shortly after the rainfall subsided, was aimed at assessing the extent of waterlogging, identifying critical drainage issues and determining urgent measures required to mitigate flooding in the area.
Engr. Kasali, who was accompanied by key officials of the council, expressed concern over the recurring challenge of flooding, particularly in low-lying neighborhoods.
He emphasized that his administration remains committed to implementing lasting and sustainable solutions that will address both immediate and long-term drainage problems across the LCDA.
“This visit is part of our continuous effort to understand the root causes of flooding in our communities and to proffer practical engineering solutions,” he said.
“We are determined to ensure the comfort, safety, and well-being of all residents of Lekki LCDA.”
The council boss noted that the administration has already commenced plans to strengthen existing drainage systems, clear blocked water channels, and collaborate with relevant state agencies to enhance flood management infrastructure.
He assured residents that proactive measures would be taken to minimize future occurrences, stressing that community participation and regular environmental maintenance remain key to sustaining the progress being made.
Engr. Kasali also commended the resilience of residents affected by the recent rainfall and reiterated his administration’s resolve to make Lekki a model of responsive governance and urban resilience.
“Our goal is to create a safe, clean, and livable environment where residents can thrive, regardless of weather conditions,” he added.
The inspection tour underscores the council’s ongoing commitment to infrastructural improvement and the implementation of the THEMES Plus Agenda of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration, particularly in the area of climate adaptation and sustainable urban development.
