The Lagos State Government has restated its commitment to accountability, measurable impact, and sustainability in community-driven HIV response initiatives.
EpeInsights reports that the Chief Executive Officer of the Lagos State AIDS Control Agency (LSACA), Dr. Folakemi Animashaun, while speaking at a two-day capacity-building workshop for organisations on HIV programming, held at the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI), emphasised that transparency, grassroots participation, and continuous evaluation remain central to ensuring that interventions deliver lasting benefits.
The workshop focused on strengthening the capacity of organisations in data collection, management, and reporting, using national tools designed to improve accuracy, reliability, and evidence-based decision-making.
“Our responsibility is not just to design and implement projects but to constantly ask ourselves: have we really impacted the people and communities we claim to serve? It is important to measure outcomes and ensure our interventions translate into real, lasting change,” Dr. Animashaun said.
She highlighted Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability, and Learning (MEAL) as a critical framework for driving transparency, efficiency and sustainability in Lagos State’s HIV response.
Commending the collaborative efforts of government agencies, civil society, development partners, and local communities, Dr. Animashaun urged participants to see beyond numbers and reports, stressing that every statistic represents lives saved, stigma reduced and communities empowered.
One of the facilitators, Miss Bunmi Solomon, also challenged participants to embrace self-assessment and stronger accountability frameworks, noting that collaboration and community ownership are key to an effective HIV response.
The two-day workshop reflects LSACA’s resolve to build stronger institutions, enhance programme outcomes, and consolidate progress towards achieving an HIV-free Lagos.
