In recognition of her exemplary leadership and outstanding service in the Lagos State Public Service, Mrs. Abisola Dokunmu-Adegbite, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, has been honoured with the Nelson Mandela Leadership Award of Excellence and Integrity by the Southern Youth Forum (SYF).
The award presentation, held on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, at the State Secretariat, Alausa, Ikeja, was described as an “epoch-making ceremony,” attended by top government officials and SYF representatives.
Presenting the award, Hon. Olajide Olakunle, Deputy Speaker of the Forum, lauded Dokunmu-Adegbite for her dedication to promoting quality education, her passion for excellence, and her innovative approach to leadership.
“The Award is a testament to her exceptional leadership and her ability to inspire others in the education sector,” Olakunle stated. “Her contributions to the Lagos State education system are commendable and worthy of emulation.”
The Southern Youth Forum, a non-governmental organisation championing youth development and good governance across Southern Nigeria, described Dokunmu-Adegbite’s tenure as Permanent Secretary as one marked by integrity, innovation and strategic impact.
The forum also expressed optimism about her continued success in office, noting that her achievements so far reflect the values of leadership and service exemplified by Nelson Mandela.
In attendance at the ceremony were Mr. Saheed Hammed, SYF Media Director; Mr. Olalekan Taiwo, National Public Affairs Officer; and Directors from the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education.
The award adds another feather to the cap of Mrs. Dokunmu-Adegbite, further underscoring her influence and commitment to shaping the future of education in Lagos State.
