Fuel Station Fire Sparks Panic in Ifako-Ijaiye, Another Blaze Reported on Victoria Island

Panic gripped residents and motorists in the Obawole area of Ifako-Ijaiye, Lagos State, on Wednesday following a fire outbreak at a fuel station located along Old Akute Road.

EpeInsights reports that the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) confirmed the incident, noting that the fire prompted a swift emergency response.

Thick plumes of smoke and fierce flames sent nearby residents fleeing for safety, as the blaze reportedly originated from underground tanks before spreading across the premises.

The Senior Special Assistant on New Media to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Jubril Gawat, confirmed via social media that firefighters had been deployed to the scene.

He added that the fire might have started in a building behind the station.

Officials from the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service quickly moved in to contain the fire, cordoning off the area to prevent further escalation and interference from onlookers.

Spokesperson of the agency, Shakiru Amodu, confirmed that their swift intervention helped prevent the flames from spreading to nearby properties.

Meanwhile, another fire incident was reported around the same time in Victoria Island. A building located opposite the Silverbird Galleria on Ahmadu Bello Way was engulfed in flames around 5:22 p.m.

Emergency responders from the Oniru Fire Station arrived on-site approximately 22 minutes later and succeeded in bringing the blaze under control, despite traffic delays en route.

Fortunately, no casualties were reported in either incident.
