President Bola Tinubu at the inauguration of the Coastal Road, has warned state governors that approvals granted for developments encroaching on setbacks along federal highways will be revoked.

EpeInsights reports that the warning came during the commissioning of the Lekki Port access road, part of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway project.

Tinubu stressed the need for planning collaboration between state authorities, the Ministry of Works, and the Surveyor General of the Federation.

Describing the road as vital infrastructure for economic growth, Tinubu said the federal government has already paid N18 billion in compensation.

He also flagged off additional projects, including a new road to the Lekki Deep Seaport and pledged more infrastructure developments across the country.

Business magnates Aliko Dangote and Abdul Samad Rabiu announced investments totaling over N1.4 trillion in road infrastructure through tax credit schemes.

Dangote praised Tinubu’s economic reforms, including the Naira-for-crude initiative, while Rabiu commended ongoing foreign exchange reforms and subsidy redirection into key sectors.

The Lekki Port, expected to generate $201 billion in revenue and create over 169,000 jobs, was described as a “continental gateway” by Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu.

Minister of Marine and Blue Economy Adegboyega Oyetola called the Coastal Road road a milestone in positioning Nigeria as a maritime hub and urged urgent action to improve access to the Onne Port.Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road: FG to Revoke Approvals of Illegal Land Reclamation
