The Lagos State Wastewater Management Office (LSWMO) has inaugurated a new Zonal Office at Iru-Victoria Island LCDA to strengthen service delivery and regulatory oversight across high-density commercial districts. The move is aimed at improving wastewater management across Lagos State.
Epe Insights reports that the new office is strategically located to enhance operational response times, improve compliance monitoring, and facilitate closer engagement with corporate organisations, hospitality establishments, facility managers, and residents in the business district and its adjoining corridors.
Engr. Adefemi Afolabi, General Manager of LSWMO, described the office opening as a critical step toward advancing safe, sustainable, and regulated wastewater management in Lagos State. He highlighted the need for stronger institutional presence due to the rapid expansion of Victoria Island, Iru, and Eti-Osa, which generate increasing volumes of wastewater.

The General Manager noted that the zonal office would strengthen enforcement of wastewater regulations, improve monitoring of septic systems and treatment facilities, and foster collaboration with private sector operators and non-state actors.
“It will further strengthen our compliance framework by enabling faster response to environmental complaints, tightening supervision of wastewater discharge activities, and ensuring strict adherence to sanitation and environmental regulations within the zone,” Engr. Afolabi added.
He emphasized that effective wastewater governance in a megacity like Lagos requires decentralised operations, data-driven monitoring, and proactive stakeholder engagement. The new office is expected to enhance field coordination and institutional efficiency.
The Zonal Office will also serve as a model for expanding LSWMO’s footprint across Lagos State, ensuring consistent enforcement of environmental standards and protection of public health.

Engr. Afolabi reiterated the agency’s commitment to preventing pollution of water bodies, safeguarding the environment, and promoting sustainable sanitation practices for current and future generations.
Members of the public are encouraged to report wastewater-related infractions through LSWMO’s official phone lines: 08022022397, 07025332163, or via social media: @lswmomedia on Instagram and Twitter, and The Lagos Wastewater Management Office on Facebook.
The initiative underscores Lagos State’s proactive approach to urban sanitation, highlighting the role of regulatory agencies in protecting the environment while supporting sustainable commercial growth.
