The Aladeshonyin of Odo-Noforija Kingdom, HRM Oba Babatunde Olaogun Ogunlaja, has raised urgent concerns over the toll operations along the Epe–Ijebu-Ode corridor, citing growing financial hardship for residents, unsafe driving practices, and road degradation.
Epe Insight reports that the monarch called on both Lagos and Ogun State Governments to review toll charges, emphasising that the current ₦1,000 per crossing fee disproportionately affects farmers, particularly during harvest periods when multiple trips are necessary. He warned that the toll burden is indirectly driving up food prices, affecting the broader population.
Oba Ogunlaja also highlighted the dangerous practice of motorists taking one-way routes to avoid tolls, describing it as a life-threatening trend that requires immediate government intervention. He further expressed concern about the indiscriminate parking of trucks along the route, which contributes to traffic congestion and gradual road damage from oil leakages.
The monarch urged collaboration between Lagos and Ogun States to enforce parking regulations, improve traffic management, and ensure the road’s long-term safety and usability. He emphasised that preventive measures are more cost-effective than post-damage repairs.
He concluded by reaffirming his commitment to advocating for the welfare, safety, and economic stability of residents in Epe, Noforija, and neighbouring communities, stressing that fair toll management and road safety are critical for the well-being of all road users.
